PHOTO: JOHN CHAN 'Tukang Ensera'- Award Winning Play By Johnson Kadam KUCHING: Tukang Ensera, the title for the Persatuan Seni Persembahan Sifar (SIFAR) play, that emerged champion for the National Theatre Festival 2008, will be showcased here soon. The State Culture and Arts Department Deputy Director, Saini Lihi, told reporters that the play would be staged at the Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce Auditorium in Batu Lintang Teachers’ Training Institute on Thursday and Friday. He said that the Thursday’s performance would be for the general public and the Friday’s show would be specially for the VIPs where Chief Minister Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud would be among those expected to be present. Meanwhile, the play director, Suffian Haji Jalet, who was also present at the press conference, said that the showcasing of this award winning material would certainly not let the audience down. “I think we are going to display something which is not only promising entertainment but what we are to present this time is rather different. “This play, script by Awangku Merali Pengiran Mohamed, is based on Iban folks tale and one interesting thing is all the actors are Malays,” said Suffian. He said that SIFAR was proud to showcase the play because it was really an award winning production. Apart from being the overall champion at the national level Theatre Festival 2008, it also grabbed five other titles. He was picked as the best director, best actor (Malek Hassan), best male co-actor (Hassan Ahmad), best female co-actor (Serivina Sanina Rumpang) and most promising male actor (Alik Hassan). Earlier, Saini said that admission to watch the play would be free of charge and interested members of the public would be encouraged to come and watch the lively play staged by SIFAR in collaboration with students from Sekolah Seni Kuching.
